How did we get here?

It's a great question at this moment in time, we should all take a step back and reflect before we barge into the age of AI.

Since 1994 I've worked designing and building digital systems under the belief that the internet would be the great equalizer. More revenues to producers, better prices for consumers, the middleman would become a service and we would have a freer, fairer, more transparent society.

It did the opposite. And our institutions followed it down.

Now here we are again — the '90s all over again, but this time with AI, and tools we'd barely imagined a few years ago. Will the freer, more fair systems finally dreamt of arrive?

Here's the good news: everything we need to build the world better is in our hands. The only requirement is belief, and the willingness to act on that belief.
